Gemmell spots someone succesfully running MythTV on the PS3

Thanks to gemmell for this link: http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/users/299490

It appears someone has classic MythTV running on the PS3. It will be interesting to see if they get reliable HD decoding with out using the cell processors. Or, perhaps they found a port of the libmpeg for the cell.

Heh, thanks for the cred, though the link of Gemmell is broken (404). You have it as:

But it should be:

I'm now confused. Originally I thought they had a Mythtv backend with UPnP and they were just using the native OS to find the backend, thus not using the mythfrontend at all.

I can upload the compiled version if you would like to test it/send it out to the world. It'll have to be at the point where you will need to run make install. That should work if you have all the libs installed.
Sorry I have no idea how to make a rpm, anyhow let me know

I think the post is misleading as he is not actually running Mythtv on the PS3, but rather using the UPnP feature of the game os on the PS3 to connect to the backend. Its very limited compared to a full frontend but usefull none the less.

Also, HD works great since you are able to use the full power of the PS3 unlike in Linux. I have posted details in gemmell's post as well as here under MythTV+PS3.

No full myth tv front end running in YDL5 with HD playback works fine with the patched mythtv. see the link posted in the comments not on the blog,

Thanks anonymous ... but this blog doesn't have any storage that you could upload to. If you have a spot to put it (I think there are youtube like sites for file downloads .. rather than videos) you could post a link to it here in the comments.

I had a look at the link re the patched mythtv on ps3. It looks very interesting. What isn't so clear and where the person doing the patch work might help is to provide more guidance on what OS they are using (I assume YDL), which tool chain versions they are using and where to source said toolchain. I confess to getting a bit lost in trying to source that data. It didn't seem very clear. If it is just case if installing YDL 5.01 with the developer option then stating that clearly would be a great help to those of use taking baby steps here. :-)

Cheers.
